The game 'guidbwll' (guide-bull), played in Arthurian times and repeatedly mention in "The Mabinogian" is similar to end game chess, with the king replaced by the bull, whose object is to escape to the opposite side of the board, versus an opposing force of no set size whosr object is to corrsl the bull so that it cannot move without being placed in check.
