'In December 1992, his classic mixture of Wagner, Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd What's Opera, Doc? (1957) was inducted into the Smithsonian's National Film Registry for being 'among the most culturally, historically or aesthetically significant films of our time.' Anyone who has seen the piece would be hard put to disagree with their assessment'

I have just one thing to say.

Kill the Wabbit, Kill the Wabbit, Kill the Wabbit now!

Well, I can think of one or two animators that might argue with that assesment, but I'd certainl;y settle for describing him as one of the most uniquely inventive individuals of the 20th Century.smiley - ok

Glad you enjoyed it anyway.smiley - cheers

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

"Oh mighty warrior of great fighting stock..."

Very happy this one got into the Guide at last smiley - biggrin For me, and I suspect an awful lot of others, Chuck Jones shaped the ideas of what animation ought to be. Nice one guys smiley - cheers

Excellent! it's been too long since I last saw a C .Jones film but this brought it all flooding back.

things I remember:

Kill the wabbit!

Wanting the Roadrunner to be caught and eaten.

The horror on the female cats face when Pepe's smell reached them.

As a kid, knowing that the name Chuck Jones meant 5 minutes of pure excitment.

Thanks,

...they are surely unique in that they were funny when I was a child and somehow managed to be *even funnier* when I grew up.

Now *that* is a feat. smiley - ok

On a lightly down note mind you I must say that I think Chuck Jones' Tom and Jerrys were not a patch on the Hanna Barbera originals.

...and no mention of Yosemite Sam smiley - sadface - my favourite character.

However, along with Tom and Jerry, Bugs, Daffy and co. are way superior (for me) to Walt Disney's cartoons.

Yosemite Sam was Friz Freleng's invention, and was never identified with Jones in the same way that Bugs was.
The same way that Foghorn Leghorn is always associated with Bob McKimson, despite being (I think) Tex Avery's original idea.

I think that may well have been Jones-unfortuneatly, when his career includes 300 animated shorts, I think we tried to pick out some of the more significant ones.
I think you.ll find that the link to Chuck's own site has a full filmography somewhere.smiley - ok

It is of course, total coincidence that that 'What's Opera Doc?' and 'Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 Century' are my personal favourites...smiley - smiley
