Keeping things together and keeping them clean

Various gadgets work just as well and can be protected from dirt and light damage if wrapped in foil and shrink-sealed. A particularly good example is a television or video remote control. Here you have the added advantage that the writing does not wear off from repeated use of certain buttons. (A neighbour of ours had this idea, I have seen it done!) Make sure you have a fresh battery in before sealing though!
In fact, fastidious people can even do it to their gear levers, etc., before handing their car over to a mechanic.
There are probably other uses for toys, where the shrink wrap serves the purpose of keeping several bits together, but I can't think of an example off hand.
