...also hosts the Lincoln to Boston Marathon Row, (slightly) more commonly known (to rowers, anyway) as the Boston Marathon.
Held in September, this is the longest rowing race in the UK, exactly what it says on the tin: each year about 150 crews start in Lincoln and row to Boston, taking anywhere between a shade under 3 hours to over 9 hours to do it.
The event had its origin in 1947 when a Boston Rowing Club crew rowed to Lincoln just to see if they could. Over the next few years, more club members emulated the feat, deciding that towing their boats to Lincoln and rowing back to the Clubhouse made (fractionally) more sense. Realising that their members weren't the only nutters in the country Boston RC opened the event to all comers in the 50s and have held it annually ever since. (Except 2000, when the fuel crisis forced a cancellation).
More in my journal if anyone's remotely interested

Thanks...whereabouts do you live?
Shame that info is too late to go in the entry - didn't you see the front page appeal for contributions to the County entries? Or the Peer Review thread?
Thanks for reading the entry

Sorry about that: I live in Newcastle, and my thoughts only turn Lincolnwards in September (usually)
Nice piece though
