"the fact that the native indians were organized in dozens of tribes" doesn't really cut it (unless 200+ is 'dozens'). Despite the continuing physical and cultural genocide, there are still 180 native languages spoken in Brasil. There are a number of related languages, but these are as different as, for example, Spanish and Italian. Most of these ethnic groups are not 'organised into tribes' - each one has a 'tribal organisation' which is a sort of social structure.
