Nome, Alaska

Post 1

I'm building my knowledge about the Great Serum Run of 1925, that saved Nome from a diptheria outbreak.

Here are some specific questions:

1. Is it common for lead dogs to know the width of the sled, and avoid going between trees that are too close?

2. I know that a dog team and sled is a conveyance without a reverse gear. If the team goes through the gap between two trees that are too close, how long would it take for a skilled musher to get out of that mess and under way again?

3. During the early days of February, how many hours of daylight and darkness does Nome, Alaska experience on a clear day?
