h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Well done on a comprehensive entry. I always had the vague impression that Mah Jong was a hideously complicated game and though the list of rules seems long and intricate I'm sure that it all fits together in your head once you've played a few hands (maybe that's why it's so often compared to card games like Cribbage or Bridge). Anyway you've certainly inspired me to get hold of a set and have a go at a game or two.

I do have one question, are there any other distinct games (other than the myriad variations on the standard rules) that can be played with a Mah Jong set? If Mah Jong is similar to Rummy might it not be possible to devise (unles they are already in existence) games based on other card games, but adapted for the Mah Jong tiles?
