A pile of marbles..(new ones)..can be used in a fish aquarium..fry can seek refuge amonst the marbles to avoid being eaten by adult fish..

A goodly quantity of marbles can also be used in place of a pinfrog to keep a flower arrangement in place.
"Steelies" (ball bearings) can be played with by making magnetic structures, especially the strong magnets that you can't really buy but must scrounge for as a kid that you can use to temporarily magnetize the steelies with.

would that be the type of magnets inside old stereo speakers?..my brothers were always taking apart old speakers for the magnets..now my son does too..
..the fun he has with a bit of old junk..
