Any good walks with pub stop-offs?
cashlessness Started conversation Feb 13, 2002
A handy entry. I'd never heard of Hatfield Forest before but the old dear recommended it this week, so it's very timely. Do you know of any good walks around there with suitable liquid refreshmnent/Sunday roast en route?
I had a wander round Epping Forest last week, which was rather spoilt by an appalling meal at the Robin Hood. Enough salt in the gravy to kill a cow.

No pubs in Hatfield Forest I'm afraid, I guess the National Trust probably disapprove of that sort of thing I think your best bet would be to include Takeley or one of the other local villages in your route. Haven't tried any of the pubs there though.
I don't think I've tried any of the Epping Forest pubs either - my main involvement with Epping was as a biker up to a couple of years back (see the bit on Berts Tea hut in the Epping Forest entry A531974), and the local pubs were infamous for not being biker friendly.
My main concerns tend more to be a decent cup of coffee and loos - both Hatfield and Epping score well on those.
I'll avoid eating in the Robin Hood though - I've not tried it myself but I've heard the Volunteer does good chinese food.
