thanks Grey Desk i would never have fathomed that out mi sen.
er...Wednesday were always my favourite team...the fans seemed mostly interested in the game as far as i remember, as opposed to the blades supporters, who seemed mostly interested in turning the planters over in Furnival Square,(actually round and known as the 'hole in t'rooad')
and in taunting the police doggies in Pond Street Bus Station.
er...piggies eh?

I never liked Hillsborough much - no discenable atmosphere. I liked it even less after one of my friends died at the Liverpool semi final debacle Once I had left the comforts of the University life, and was trying to live and work in the City. It was these sort of things that made me side with the Blades over the Owls when looking for an identity in the town.
As for the state of play today. Well, Wednesday may well be interested in watching the game. After all they sure as heck have plenty of empty seats to choose from at the moment. Pity the state of what they are watching is so pitiful The Blades on the other hand, just starting to *seriously* think about a life in a higher league. I don't know if it will come off - but here's hoping

and i suppose the blades dont have empty seats i mean the only reason the stadium looked full was they were playing a premier league side if id had been a first division side then it would have been empty just the glory supporters coming out to watch well it may be 2-1 to the scum but liverpool will triumph the only way the scum will go to cardiff is as supporters!!

*aside*(if the truth be known...the last time i was actually at a match at hillsborough, was in er 1962 i think, Derek Hooley was the manager, and we beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1...ah well)*
what a tragedy
and hillsborough stadium is now added to that list of insignificant towns where bad stuff happened...Lockerbie, Huysell Stad., Bhopal...
did the blame ultimately fall on the er Local Constabulary or what?
but i digress, did you, or did you not eat fish and chips whilst in Sheffeld ??

actually talking of Hillsborough (last time I was there Terry Curran was playing) there's a nice-enough fish shop on Leppings lane by the traffic lights.

The best chippie is the Admiral at Frecheville! Big fat chips and a that needs two plates to hold it

Funnily enough there is one of those along Crookes, and as I recall they did whopping portions of rather good chips. I guess it's a local chain of friers.
I still think the one at the bottom of Duncombe street was better. Their fish and their batter was really out of the top drawer

Theres an Admiral at Mosborough too (i go their when the one at frecheville is closed on a sunday night) it must be the same chain yeah.

*makes notes*
I'll be over for a weekend in February. It's about 3 years since I had decent chips, so I'll be doing the rounds.
Are there any half-way decent fish shops near the centre of town?

Theres a pretty good one near argos in town, I don't know the street name but i'll create a visual map for you to follow
if you walk towards wilkinsons from argos, the co-op on your right, then its just on your left hand side...no idea of the name of it either though!

you'll have to be much more specific than that... last time I lived there there was a massive hole in the road, and we still called that bit opposite the cathedral "Cole's Corner"
I'll find chips if it kills me. I have had the Gruesome Twosome with me for my last few visits so I haven't had the freedom to roam that I usually enjoy.
But this time... *does happy dance*
I'm on my own. Which means I'll probably set up a camp bed in Waterstones.
and sorry, right off topic. Is the shop Rare & Racy (er... Division street? right along division street and then a few metres more) still open?

Baconlefeets Posted Jan 25, 2004
i don't think it is....i've never noticed it when i've been on division street, i usually manage to get away from the bars and find the spar at the end but thats the most i see!!!
"cole's corner", My nan still calls it that . I can remember the hole in the road, but their was a fish tank in it right? i don't remember that

Thanks, Grey Desk, I love to have a mooch around there.
Footbacon actually, Cole's has not been on that corner in my living memory, but my mum calls it that still (she's probably of an age with your gran, so it's not surprising)
And don't get me started on the fish again. We have been very worried about them...
either...
a) they were battered and sold with chips
b) they were left down there and are now wearing little fishy concrete overcoats
c) they were moved somewhere else - are they homesick? Do the other fish take the mickey out of their Sheffield accents?
d) they were let loose in the Sheffield sewer system. They could have spread as far afield as ... oh I don't know... Shiregreen or further by now!
