The Euro notes were designed by Robert Kalina of the Austrian Central Bank. The windows and gateways on the front symbolise the spirit of openness and cooperation in the European Union. The bridges on the back of the notes represent communication within Europe and with the rest of the world.
The fronts of the coins were designed by Luc Luycx, a 39-year-old computer scientist at the Belgian Royal Mint. They represent Europe's place in the world, the individual countries of the European Union and the united countries of the European Union.
