My school has a policy of letting students buy carnations and a small card to go with them for Valentines day (it costs £1 at time and the profits go to improving the facilities.) The school council, which organises this ensure that everyone gets one, so you can take one home with you and see how odd the message on the card is, even if no-one else gives you one. 
Someone I know got dumped last year, so they don't want to celebrate 
-I sent them a kind of valentine that points out that there's more than one kind of love and I know it made them laugh, 
partly because the message was a little 
, and a pastice of valentines day messages.
