A Conversation for Interval Training for Runners
Interval training using 'Parlovs'
Researcher 232218 Started conversation Jun 23, 2003
I have recently joined a running club after 6 months or so of general gym attendance.
To improve my cardiovascular performance I was using spinning sessions, and this definitely improved my CV ability considerably.
However, I never considered myself a runner, but decided to give running a go. Initially I ran only in the steady jogging class over about 5 miles, and found that my performance was slow to improve.
The running instructor then told us aboout his interval training for runners using the Parlov method of intense excercise followed by rest periods, designed specifically to raise the performance of steady effort.
I have attended only 3 such sessions, but I would recommend them to anyone interested in enhancing their CV performance, and particularly to anyone wishing to improve their performance with a specific goal in mind. The increases in perfomance are a great psychological boost which helps in any area of training.
In short, this method of training should be part of any athletes repertoire as it is extremely effective and rewarding.
