I am a child of the sixties and, although I've heard of pretty everyone else mentioned here, I've never heard of Nick Drake. That is probably my loss, which I will try to rectify. Thank you for this extremly interesting, well written, article.

That's weird. I was about to post a message complaining about the constant references to Nick Drake being so 'obscure' when everyone I know has heard his records and loves them. But, going by the above post, I guess you are right after all! A very nice entry though, and it is indeed essential that Nick Drake's albums (at the very least Bryter Layter) should be in everyone's 'Chill Out' (urgh!) section. In fact Northern Sky was on a fairly recent Q Magazine free cd entitled 'Classic Chill Out', next to Groove Armada, Air and the like. His voice is truly mesmerising and his lyrics fascinating. Is it worth mentioning the humour in there too? Poor Boy always makes me grin like an idiot when the gospelly chorus comes in: 'Oh Poor Boy... so sorry for himself!' Splendid.

I've found Nick Drake to be pretty much unknown, which is why I wrote this entry! It's a good judge of character; if someone likes Nick Drake, then it's a good start.

I've liked Nick Drake since I was about twelve, when I discovered my Grandma's copy of the Fruit Tree box set on vinyl.
It's a funny thing, I've found, despite the increasing number of references to him, most people still seem not to have heard of him. Even the ones who you'd think ought to have.
