I know I should have spotted this earlier
in the section which starts Scientists like to think that the forces are balanced it says "How can we know if there is enough gravity to continue growing and never stop?" Actually the gravity opposes this expansion rather than fuels it. I suppose a better reading would be
"How can we know if the expansion will continue forever?"
