Fascinating. Thank you Lochinvar
Where did the name come from? Was it a biologist named Pitt or the name of where they were first described or is there an early clue that someone else found them toxic. Do the local indigenous folk have any legends or stories about them?
Is there a journal reference eg Nature or Science?
Over the centuries quite a lot of folk will have noted the symptoms but it's a lesson in how science works that Jack Dumbacher had the sense to figure out what was happening and the facility to tell others about it.
