Anvils are not subject to the same rules of gravity as anything else. Everything falls faster than an anvil, thus if you drop an anvil off the edge of a cliff, and fall after it, you will overtake the anvil, and it WILL land on you.

Also anvils do not fall straight down; they maneuver in the air so that no matter how far you run or duck, they will strike you squarely.
