I have a friend in the valves industry who very frequently and for some reason, very proudly, likes to tell everyone that no man made valve can do what the sphincter does - succesfully control gas, liquid, and solid, although I usually point out to him that it's rather less good with the liquid, as anyone with diarrhoea surely knows
