Ahh I remember those heady days of being a music student: the piercing insights, the omniscience, the compulsion to denigrate the views of the 'amateur'.
Music students grow into professional musos, as I did. Years of being 'in the business' softened and made kinder my attitudes. Now my performing career is over, I find virtue and charm in all kinds of views and all kinds of music.
Music is by its very nature a subjective beast and long may it remain so: objectivity has no place when the soul is engaged.
I found gnomon's article well-written and although I groaned slightly at Level 1 choices, further levels showed imagination. Gnomon's enthusiasm and passion showed through, as of course did Edd's, but perhaps in a kindlier way.
