Sydney Meet 2001
Created | Updated Feb 24, 2003
Saturday 15th of September dawned bright and fair in Sydney Town. The prospect of meeting up with some other devotees of what has become my major obsession in life was thrilling, to me if not to the rest of my family.
In eager anticipation, I set off to walk to the pub Linus had chosen for this auspicious occasion. I was on time, and having cruised the other patrons, realised I was the only one who was , so I set myself up in the courtyard in the sun with a nice long cool drink and read my book, with my copy of the THHGTTG CD prominently displayed. (A code to assist in identifying each other).
Half an hour or so later, when there was still no sign of the others, I wandered in to the bar to refresh my drink, and heard a very distinctive voice holding forth about the pleasure of h2g2 to a slightly bemused clientele, most of whom had come in to watch the footy.
I sauntered up to the other side of this being with glass in hand and CD to the fore and in my best Stanley impersonation, said:
'Feisor, I presume'.
Feisor it certainly was and the meet was under way. We chatted about life the universe and everything until a gentleman wearing a fairly loud floral shirt wandered in, towel in hand.
This was Linus, interrupting an all day/night buck's party to join our happy throng. Tashalls arrived soon after with husband Jeff and friend in tow and we adjourned to a quieter area of the pub, complete with lounge and took the photo, before the red wine and Coopers got to us.
We discussed work, families, and h2g2 naturally got a big run. Four bottles of wine later (but no-one was counting), Tashalls and her party left, which left the three of us to do some serious drinking and talking. We talked about our favourite threads and people with whom we seem to share a bond.
I left about 8.30pm, leaving Linus and Feisor to continue well into the night. All had a very pleasant time and there was talk of doing it again one night, possibly even a trivia night at the same pub.
