This brought back memories of my days as a student nurse when it was the task of the lowest of the low to collect the sputum pots and check on the contents 
Woe betide you if you didn't write the patients' names on them!
We had to prepare the Nelson's Inhalers with Friars Balsam in boiling water. Oh happy days 
It may have been in the last century, but it was only about 28 years ago, nebulisers hadn't come into common use in the dear old NHS!
