A Conversation for Syke, Lower Saxony, Germany
Syke
private-intellectual Started conversation Aug 18, 2008
Syke does indeed appear to close down at night, although there is also a theatre in the town, many different bars, the cinema. It also tends to close, aside from the main restaurants, bars and so on, at the weekends, beginning at about 13:00 on a Saturday.
For those interested in the area there is a wealth of literature available, predominantly in German, and a specialist tourist officer in the Rathaus (Town Hall). There are many bicycle tours on offer through Syke, the surrounding area and right through the Landkreis Diepholz. The area is a very popular resort for bicycle riders.
Syke is also end station for the Kaffkieker (http://kaffkieker.de), an historical private railway line run by the Verkehrsbetriebe Graschaft Hoya (VGH - http://vgh-reisen.de), which runs from Eystrup through Hoya, Bruchhausen-Vilsen, Heiligenfelde to Syke.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
