A Conversation for The Ideal Cat Toy
Toy? Play?

You might think they're playing with toys. What in reality is happening is that they are practicing, broadening their horizons, training, keeping in purrrfect shape, etc ad lib. If a cat should as much as get a whisker of an idea that you believed it to be playing, it would instantly stop and lick some paws.
At least mine does!
When they were young, they used to train a lot more. And the article, according to my cats, is right in that cheap thrills such as ping pong balls, corks, the toilet paper roll (which makes such a funny sound when you grab the end and run...!) and the occasional end of yarn are best.
And the cat tending people look very funny re-winding the toilet paper or scooping lots of corks and ping pong balls out from under the bed where they are best stored...!
*note from cat's human: ping pong balls should be out of reach during the night unless you have wall to wall carpets... *
