...my mother took our last name into account when she named me... My maiden name is Hopper, and Mom really wanted to name me Holly... (For anyone who doesn't know, Holly Hobbie was really popular doll in the US in the 1970s, when I was born.) She chose Amy because, at the time she chose it, before my birth, it was uncommon. Unfortunately, 7 out of the 10 babies born the night I was were named Amy...

Tell me about it, I was named Laura by my grandmother as my grandmother insisted there was very few Laura's around.......I attended about 12 schools during my school career because my mother moved house alot and in every school there was aleast 4 other Laura's in my class and often more. Suffice to say two years ago having finally been sick of been known as my surname I had it changed to Naomi. And you know what? I'm the only Naomi in all of my classes at College smiley - ok
Amy, you have my sympathy!

And I thought 9 was a lot of schools! Though 3 of them were in 3rd grade...

Anyway, the funny thing is, there don't seem to be many Amys on h2g2... I started a place for us all to gather, and I made it clear that it didn't matter if your name was Amy here, or IRL, or both, and there's only 4 of us! And I've even had Abi put it on the community talk thing, and it's now listed in the Post's club list... *blatant advertising now ends*

'Baby' Dave Taylor

Ah, the curse of common names - mine is something like the tenth most common first name-surname pair in the UK, and my middle name is Andrew (also very common in my generation)

Still, if I'd been a girl, I apparently would have been called Jennifer, which would have inevitably been shortened to Jenny ...

[If you don't understand, note my surname]

Oh, and I know an Amy, and she doesn't like how common her name is either.
