A Conversation for Dental Fillings
going without painkillers

a lot of dental work you don't actually need pain relief. and it's a lot less uncomfortable and painful if you choose not to. clearly this comes with a proviso...i am not talking about root canals....just ordinary fillings.
not having painkillers forces the dentist to work more carefully. (s)he cannot jam that drill in too hard because the heat will give you pain. the end result is work that is done to a higher standard, and when it's done it's done. no spilling coffee down your chin, no onset of that dull ache, no dawning realisation that the dentist has made parts of your gums shredded.
