This is really informative. And we only have a Shih Tzu.

when the family was all alive, we had a mongrel, never knew what mix.

he lived to the age of 12 in our lifespan.

all black with a bit of white on one paw.

he followed the postman everday, then came home about 10am.

when he was about 7, he came back in one night, and had been shot with an air rifle,we nearly lost him with lead poisoning.

Jimbob - glad to hear the dog recovered.

he had to be put down when he got cancer in the back legs area.

for a week he would bark and whine each day to go out, and we had to let him, then as the back started to give way on him, he wouldnt get up

i was working and had to ring the vet on the way in, and when i got home, all there was, was the collar, and the £20 vet bill for me to pay.we never got another dog.

two cats over 4 years,the second had to be taken away,in 1999, my sister became alergic as she got more ill. jimbob xx

That's sad.

If you have allergic folks at home, I recommend the Shih Tzu. They have hair, not fur. (I'm allergic to dog dander, but not to my dog.)

You have to either comb them or shave them, though. They will reward you by being total clowns.

our family had cats and the dog, and no one was alergic, it was only when my sister got the cancer that eventually took her live, the drugs weakened her imune system, and cat hairs or dog hairs agrivated the symptoms, so ginger, went to the lady that came to wash my sister three times a week.

our dog was sort of famous, and was to be on the local news show, calendar, but the fauklands war,happened the same week, so the invite was cancelled.

sonny would go out each morning, to find the postman, and travel with him, till the postman got back to catch the bus back,

one day two men where waiting in a backyard to steal the bag, and sonny, cleared a fence, and landed on them, they ran off.

the day the old postie left, the dog, wouldnt take to the new one

we had to keep him in, then one nigh the old one, came with the yunger new one, and he got sonny to acsept him, and next day sonny wa off to find the new one.

there was one thing that we never worked out.

why when sonny went to meet the postie, people would se him at the bus stop on the outgoing, till the bus came then cross over till the incoming arrived, and back if the postie wasnt on it.

one day, was on hols from work, so after i let him out, i followed behind to see for myself

and yep he crossed over four times till the postie got off the bus,coming from town. lol jimbob

Jmbob, that's a great story about your dog & the postie, I like that a lot.

Dmitri, I think, (but am not sure), that the Cocker Spaniel is another dog which is good for those with allergies - they have to be clipped regulary as well. But don't take my word for it

by the time the war was over, it never crossed our minds to try again, as with the belgrano and thatcher going on, it was ages till news got back to normal.

and in 1994, i had to leave work for good, never worked since.
