Can you please provide me with a current contact email address for Prof Sir Bryan Thwaites? I have a proof for the 3n + 1 problem for Pro. Thwaites - but don't know where to submit it.

Thanks

Gnomon - time to move on

According to the nrich link given in the Entry, he's at [email protected] but that page was written some time ago, so I don't know whether he's still at that address. You could try contacting Dulwich College, who might know where he is. He's Professor Sir Bryan Thwaites now, so he shouldn't be too hard to track down.

Thanks Gnomon,
Google has produced no current contact information despite the fact he is now the illustrious Prof. Sir Bryan Thwaites.

The pipex.com seems to be out of date but I will try again. Plus contacting Dulwich College is worth a try.

Thanks again for taking time to respond to my query.

he was living in Albany till a couple of years ago. If you ring the porter there they may have a forwarding address (Piccadilly, London)
He is also a member of the Atheneum so you could always ask them to forward it or see if he can pick it up from there.
he'll be so pleased someone's solved it!

Londoncharlie - how generous of you to offer this information! I live in Australia and tracking down the illustrious Professor has been difficult.

Yes - believe it or not - I have a formal proof showing that all n
converge to 1 under Collatz functions.

I will let you know if I have any success with these contact details.
And of course I will provide feedback as to how Sir Prof Bryan appraises my proof!smiley - erm

Londoncharlie73 - Bingo! E-mail reached Sir Bryan. His mathematically pithy response:

"Yes, this finds me. BT" smiley - cool

But I won't be submitting proof until I sort out some format problems.
Thank you again for your help!

Maybe you've taken this into account, but you'd also have to show that no loops other than (4, 2, 1) can occur. Good luck with your proof; the consensus is that this is a very hard problem.smiley - smiley
