A Conversation for Do Not Leave Unattended Luggage
what about checked airline luggage?

Several Years ago I flew from the US to London. I had checked two bags.
Unfortunately only one of the bags made my flight.
This gave the other bag the status of unattended.
the next flight contained the errant bag, which security checked very thoroughly to make sure there was nothing (CONTRABAND)added to the bag between flights.

Your luggage was not unattended. The airlines must be providing attendants to go with lone luggage otherwise how could it be sent thousands of miles from where its owner is going. Remember the airlines ALWAYS offload unaccompanied baggage.

So you are saying every bag that ends up at the wrong airport has an attendant flying with it. perhaps that attendant wanted to get to the other destination and used the bag as a reason to be on the flight.

We seem to have a problem*. Either the airlines are telling fibs about unaccompanied luggage or people are baggage-napping to get free flights.
