Here we use the European method of numbering floors, but it is done using alphabet characters rather than numerals - so the ground floor is 'g', then you have 'f', 's' and 't'. Then, unfortunately, the fun starts, as 'fourth' starts with 'f' just like 'first', so the system switches over to numerals from here on upwards (mainly necessary due to an ugly tower block seemingly 20 stories high in the middle of the campus).
Unfortunately, in some buildings, it is unclear where the ground floor actually is and so you end up with some rooms being in 'b' for basement. Also, not all the letters used to identify buildings bear any resemblance to the name of the building! Then, in the Library building (where I work, being a library assistant) we have additional problems. Not all the rooms beginning with 'L' for Library building are actually in the library itself - there is a whole corridor of offices, plus a cluster of seminar rooms with that designation. We often have to rescue students who are trying to find 'Lf13' or whatever.
Most buildings have posh-sounding names - Augustine, Beckett, Powell, Invicta and so on, yet somehow we are just in 'Library'

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
