Snakes on an island

An interesting note (which may have already been posted)this article mentions that there are very few snakes in Australia. I wish this was true.
Australia has 21 of the 25 most deadly snakes in the world and the top ten consecutive. If australia has fewer snakes than spiders, it is because insects and arachnids tend to be found in higher numbers all around the world. They can get inside houses, dunnies, shoes etc as mentioned, but the humble snake has a few more issues getting into those hard to reach places.
