Good stuff. Thank you for it. 
One question though: I remember reading in some article or another that he was "Irish Royalty" and lived on some hereditary estate. Is that just simply incorrect, or a really bad misinterpretation of his KBE?

His father was a travelling salesman, and his mother died when he was young, from what I can gather, she was just a housewife and mother.
Irish royalty eh? I guess he is now
