As well as using "8" as a substitute for "E", its also used as a substitute for the syllable "ate". I believe Nicole Brown Simpson (OJ's "ex"-wife) had the registration "L84AD8" - (Late for a Date) on her car at the time she was murdered.
As a Sheffield United supporter my favourite is "H80WLS" - now if I can only find the battered old Ford Escort which carried the number and buy it!

There's a dentist / orthodontist in Owen Sound, Ontario with the plate "STR8NM". Straighten 'em.
We can choose our own personalized plates. The can't have the same format as issued plates ([A-Z][A-Z][A-Z] [1-9][1-9][1-9]) otherwise you can use six characters/letters and a space. Just recently, issued plates went to four letter and three digits and I think personl plates can now be seven chartacters too.

In New Zealand personalised plates can be all numbers, all letters, or a combination of both.
I sometimes drive a van owned by a dart club. The number plate is 180.
Considering the state of my dart playing ability, it's definitly wishful thinking

When learning to drive some years ago I kept coming accross this wrecked old banger on the roads with a really rare old number plate that had to be worth 50 times the value of the car it was stuck on.
