In India, an ancient ceremony is re-enacted out in Feb/March, one of the most prehistoric and gruelling rite of passage is carried out. It has many names - ICSE, the Boards, the Public Exam, the Big One ... this rite consists of many children, between the ages of 15 and 16, writing one a piece of paper, answer to questions given on another piece of paper ... it is administrated by a group of priests called 'teachers'. Ancient and archaic questions are posed to the students which they must successfully answer -- well, 35% of them at least
and then a few months later
they recieve they're Marks of Passage
also known as 'Results'
and they who do well go to the next step
the ISC
(any indian will know what i'm talking about )

We have something similar in this country (England), followed two years later with the same, but with the added ritual known as "filling in the UCAS form", which is a rite of passage into a "university".

And in Ireland there's the whole Points System and CAO/CAS where you only get to college if you can earn the right number of points in your Leaving.
