Congrats on being edited
I thought the Pepsi Max Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach was the first vertical drop roller coaster (rather than The Oblivion) - it was certainly built first and although not completely vertical, I'm fairly sure they promoted it has having a vertical 'bit' (probably about 3cm or so).
The Pleasure Beach also has the Cat & Mouse - rickety piece of s**t where you actually fear for your life rather than just being thrilled by the experience.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
