A Conversation for Pascal's Wager
all powerful aliens?

well, ive been thinking of this wager that we should believe in god because if we dont then etc etc... and i was thinking that we can do thing for an infinite amount of other, 'made-up' arguements. for example - in pascals theory - we should believe in god because we are hedging our bets so to speak. well in the same way we can then make a multitude of other arguements (i believe all powerful aliens exist because if they dont then i havent missed out on anything and if they do then whopee; i believe in a big fruit salad in the sky etc etc).. in this way the God arguement is just one of many thousands (or an infinite number) and is, in this case, no more worthy than any of the others. therefore i dont think this arguement works as an arguement for god...
you cant use ockhams razor against it either, as each arguement is a simple as the last... hum.. interesting

yep - makes sense.
It's odd that many people say they would against the tyranny of all-powerful aliens, but think nothing of submitting to an all-powerful God...

Blackberry Cat , if one wishes to remain an individual in the midst of the teeming multitudes, one must make oneself grotesque Posted Oct 27, 2003
I always thought that a god who wanted us to worship him wouldn't be worthy of worship.
If as I suspect he doesnt exist then theres no point worshipping him. If he doesnt care about being worshipped then theres no point worshipping him. If he demands worship hes egotistical and not worthy of worship. Mind you the last type of god would fit the Old Testament "jealous god" type of thing so perhap to be on the safe side ... naah .
