A Conversation for Living with Bears

Do Bears Really S**t in the Woods?

Post 1

Sam

I'm off up to some really wild part of northern Maine tomorrow to go looking for bears (or rather looking out for bears) and so this enrty will come in very handy indeed. Thank you very much! smiley - smiley

I think in Maine you'll have more moose trouble than anything else. Now, I'd rather come in contact with a bear any day over a moose. They might look silly and Bullwinkle-ish but they're nasty and unpredictable. Especially during the rut, which is starting right about now....

Good luck! smiley - smiley

My vote for best bumper sticker? Small, square with a red lobster on a white background and the legend "Official Maine Bumpah Stickah". smiley - biggrin

Hah! Ayuh, I'm back now! I went up to Baxter State Park passing places with great names like Millonocket, Piscataquis and Newadnehunk. I saw no bears. No moose. Just a mouse. Oh, and loads of red squirrels and chipmunks. But the place is very very beautiful indeed. Spent time in Bangor where S. King's house is (on top of a hill apparently) but never got round to seeing it. I'd very much like to visit Maine again although I think I want to go to a completely different part of America next. Los Angeles, anyone?

Welcome back, Sam. Too bad about the bears, but I'm glad you had a good tripsmiley - smiley

We met some folks from Boston on our adventure up the eastern seaboard, who were genuinely concerned for our safety in northern Maine. They gave us the impression that the place was inhabited by cannibals. Needless to say, we had a great time; and such few of the locals we had the good fortune to meet were delightful. Ayuh.

ps We're off on a trip to Louisiana tomorrow. I'll let you know if Nastassia Kinski is still in the New Orleans zoo.smiley - winkeye

Sam, if you're looking for more cannibals and dangerous wildlife, Los Angeles might just be the place for you!

Well, actually, I am interested in Cannibals. And ever since I saw Roman Polanski's 'Tess', Natasha Kinski's never been too far from my mind...smiley - smiley Looks like I'm going to have to go back to the States, pretty damn quick. smiley - smiley

You might have to adjust your plans. The last I heard, Ms. Kinski was married to an Egyptian businessman and living in Cairo.
