A Conversation for Positioning the Bridge on a Mandolin

Mandolas!

Hi Gnomon;i've finally arrived in Ireland (Co.Sligo)...typical constantly renovating project type cottage in the middle of nowhere, grand! (Google map Muckelty Hill; it's basically where we are)

Had to sell my
Fender mando, my Fender bass got nicked in Francde, BUT have aquired a Mandola, 'twas in a very poor shape, but is currently in Mandola Intensive Care Unit; no clue how to play the lovely creature, any advice more than welcome!

I've totally forgotten the techniques of tuning etc & play simply by ear, usually in the same fashion i play bass (ie: notes, not chords)....investigated last night on internet & they are on about Scruggs & capos on either 2nd or 5th fret. Which means little to me.

Where in Eire are you? We're in Co.Sligo, email me at zendevil3ATgmail Dot com for actual address & you'd be more than welcome to visit; it's set up as a basic Hostel & my partner was trained as classical cello player, but it's a bit like teacing yer wife to drive your car; i'd rather have someone like yerself give me tips.

Plus it would be lovely to actually meet you (& yours?) in person, nice village, largeish farm, 10 smiley - sheep; 1 goat, 1 but soon to be two smiley - cat; grand craic if you are into that sort of stuff.

Do keep in touch,

Slainté;

zdt

Gnomon - time to move on

I'm sorry to say I've only just seen this, five years after Terri posted it and a few years after she died. I would love to have given her a few mandola lessons.
