This entry is very comprehensive, without being too long or exhaustive. however, a few minor points/questions....
-The southernmost tribe was the tribe of Judah...David was the king of Judah before he became king of Israel.
-As best as I can understand, the people would have to sacrafice for sins at the tabernacle before the temple was built; as the Mosaic law commanded them. I dont see how Solomon could be seen as giving the temple in Jerusalem a monopoly on the market, when all he really did was move the system from Shiloh, where the ark had been previous to the reign of David.
-I also was under the impression that 2nd temple (Ezra's) lasted from the time of its building untill 70 AD, and that Herod sort of "remodeled" it.
also, yes, the temple was destroyed in 70 AD by Titus of Rome, who also sacked Jerusalem.

is sack the same as ransack?
I thought sacking jerusalem would be like firing it.
"Jerusalem, I know you've worked hard for the company and all, but I'm afraid we have to let you go."
doesn't make all that much sense, which triggered my remark.
but if ransack is the same as sack in this context, then I said nothing and stand corrected

Haven't visited the site for a long time and am glad to see people interested.
Some replies:
1) Before the time of Solomon people were allowed to sacrifice in other place of worship (called in Hebrew “Bamot”, literal translation is stages). But after the temple rose a ban on the ‘Bamot’ was raised. It didn’t help much through the book of ‘Kings’ the bible says again and again on various reigns something like “The king was good before the eyes of God except the ‘Bamot’ that were still in place”.
2) The second temple was in fact completely changed by Herod becoming in fact a new temple.
3) Yes it is 70 AD. How can this typo be corrected?
Well Done.

OH! I'm trying to sift through whatever happened to your post... I think the B calls them the sacred groves, or high places or something?
maybee the original editor can help you out as far as making any editorial changes? Most certainly one of the italics (Sam or Ashley, I would think) could help you make any changes, maybee just pop over to their space and leave a message?
Well Done.
