A Conversation for Gram Stain Technique
Gram stain substitutes

That is very interesting. When I was in year 10 I went for a week's work experience to the local hospital's pathology lab and I spent 2 days in the heamatolgy department so I know how to stain a slide with a blood sample on it. The procedure is exactly the same as the Gram Stain technique that you described here.
I have never thought of using substitutes, such as blackcurrant cordial, for the lab chemicals, though. This would be a good experiment in quite a few books of science experiments aimed at teenagers, that I have seen, or of course as a year 12 biology experiment.
Annie.
