I can relate to the "vintage" car anology.....I've replaced EVERYTHING on Monsys' '68 Dart except the engine(about 5 grand into a $50 car)....and I mean EVERYTHING!

The heads went out(swallowed a valve), and its' down again. But it MUST be fixed!

I sometimes wish I didn't enjoy the DIY realm so much!smiley - winkeye

It seems like I'm going to be painting for the rest of my life - I only moved into my new cottage in June, have been painting and decorating like mad and have only one room left to decorate - But have now realised my kitchen needs re-painting already - Urgh!!

I'm moving to a cave........without my sons!!

No, no. Get the sons to take over. While still at school my son painted the outside of the house, laid a concrete floor in the cellar and built a mantlepiece in the lounge. (OK it didn't have any square corners. Well, actually it did, but the wall it was built against wasn't straight in any direction. In fact, none of our walls are; the house is at least two hundred years old. But D's friends wre so impressed at being "allowed to help" that they put in a fitted kitchen for me that is still as beautiful as ever ten years later) My other lad had ensured that I have not had to climb a ladder (except once when I was locked out) in fifteen years. smiley - star

It seems we now have a redecorated bathroom once again. I understand the lavatory pan had to be removed yet again. Glad I wasn't around as the weather was still rather hot at that stage of the gamesmiley - starsmiley - star

Well, I have been looking around ours lately, and deciding whether we should go the "expensive route" and get the bathroom done properly. No more fiddling around with paint, etc, but actually taking tiles off, waterproofing again, etc, etc.

We didn't take this route the first time due to money constraints, but we are getting better "heeled" now. Besides, I have been helping completely renovate my sister's new pad, which is quite inspiring.

I'll let you know!

I went home this summer and didn't have to do ANYTHING in the bathroom. Number 2 son and his girlfriend had redecorated and it was lovely. I couldn't find the bath mat or the loo brush.....
They had also repainted the outside of the house. So it looked lovely too. Unfortunately one of the ancient sash windows had been painted shut and "came apart in me 'and" when I tried to open it. However, this was the year I paid my mortgage off. So I have entered negotiations for the local builder to put in double glazing. We seemingly have to get permission as we're in a conservation area -or part of the house is - the line seems to be drawn down the middle of the house.smiley - starsmiley - star
