When I was about 10, that a very long time ago, I asked my father "what is God?"
I'll never forget his reply. "Spell God with a double o and you''ll know."

If I had this conversation with my son, he'd reply:
"And what is good?"
And I'd say:
"Look at everything the church did, it was not good.
Look at everything humanism did, it is good. Look at human rights, democracy and the constitution, they are good, and to be improved. They are the reason we have no more major wars."
