A Conversation for Adam Ant - Pop Star

Zarniroop (er.... I'll think of something amusing to put here soon!)

Adam got a slot on the highly contested live aid gig, and made a bit of wally of himself, and almost totally ended any credibility he had and any chance of furthering/relaunching his career.
While acts like status quo played old favorites, Adam decided to plug his new single to the millions that were partaking in the biggest gig ever. bit of a duff move really, the song (can't remember what it was) was absolute hairy testicles and the whole audience went to the toilet or brewed a cup of tea! The single didn't get anywhere, and he was more or less ostricised by the music industry for his egocentric self-promotion, rather than play an old hit, which would have gone down better than the lead ballon he was relasing.

Dr E Vibenstein (You know it is, it really is.)

The single was Vive Le Rock, and the story (which may or may not be true) goes that Adam was the only artist at Live Aid whose back catalogue sales decreased in the week after the gig.

In Adam's defence, he was due to perform THREE songs in the FIFTEEN MINUTES originally allotted to him and everybody else that day.

Unfortunately the EGO got the better of Style Council, Status Quo (or whoever it was) who overran TWICE over the limit.

Thus Adam performed his current single which, although fairing badly in the charts, was thought to be a suitable "stadium anthem" and remains a firm fans favourite.

Maybe people would can take a listen of his back catalogue and they'll realise that he wasn't just a "dandy highwayman" or fairytale character but a musician!

Hi Madam Stan or Researcher 187650!

Thanx for your comments, tho it seems to me, after visiting your personal space, that you've only registered as a researcher to plug your website (unsuccessfully). You do seem to be quite devoted to AA by your knowledge, my comment was just one of those usual bitchy coments I occasionally make about musicians! Hope no offense was caused and you add more to your home page, u cud even try plugging your website by making an entry as URL's are allowed to be posted this way as long as they aren't purely commercial or contain matter that may cause offense!

Oh how wrong you can be! I've been visiting this portal for about a year, however I registered on reading the Live Aid comment of which I felt moved to respond. As you can see I made four points and simply put a standard signature - seeing as I'm the founder of Adam's largest operational fan society (oh and sorry, we have a URL ..DOH)

See above! And no, the Ant Lib site is not exactly commercial or offensive - (maybe the latter if you're a Duran Duran fan. In fact maybe, actual informational links should be removed altogether, I guess people can get very defensive if someone comes along to set the record straight!

I don't understand why you removed the url of the webside of the ant liberation front, since it's a non commercial organisation that is there especially for Adam Ant fans. They just happen to have a webside as well. I also have my own non-commercial Adam Ant website
because I like his music and want to share my Adam Ant stuff with anyone that likes him too or who wants to know more about him.
What better way to get to know more about him then by visiting the antliberation front, that has over 700 members now and has all recent info about Adam Ant. The url was not ment to plug their site but to give other people a chance to see some info about Adam Ant.

My own url is [URL removed by moderator]

I hope you will not remove it. (It's only a small site with no commercial intentions what so ever) I also hope you will let the ant liberation front post their url here, it is
[URL removed by moderator]

See ya,

Nedermier (Netherant)

I don't know if all urls are automatically removed, but if not I think you are very childish. I will test it by saying the following my url is (without the http) [URL removed by moderator].

the one from antlib is

Could you give me an answer instead of just removing the urls. Why are you doing that, I use my site to link to as many sites as possible, not try to keep all visitors for myself.

Hi Nedermier!
In answer to yr question - all url's are removed from conversation threads, (almost all immeadiately) if you want to post url's the only way of doing it is by creating a link to an entry created in via yr personal space or on yr personal space page.

Hope that helps!

So this means I put the url to my site in my personal space, and then tell here they can go to my site and to the site of the ant liberation front by clicking on my name and thereby go to my personal space or use the link below to go to my personal space http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/U188570

Can you verify that this is correct?

I guess it is, because the link is still up after an hour. Allwrighty then, people who have read this thread and are interested in seeing my website or in the website of the Ant Liberation Front, the organisation of Adam Ant fans, please click on my name to go to my personal pages, where you can find the links to these sites.

See ya,

Unfortunately no URLs except internal ones, ie. URLs to BBCi pages, are allowed in conversations or journal entries. They are, however, allowed in guide entries and personal spaces as long as their content is deemed appropriate, eg. not pornographic, commercial, offensive, etc. The house rules explain this far better than I can and are the place to check for the exact details. As you have said, Nedermier, it is acceptable to place a link to your personal space or guide entry in conversation and then an external URL there.

Now, as a lover of Adam Ant music and someone who still thinks he is sexy, I am off to check out Researcher 187650's personal space and that Adam Ant website smiley - smiley

Oh smiley - sadface Madam Stan, I notice your personal space has nothing written on it, that's a shame. If you edit it to show anything, doesn't matter what, I'd like to visit for smiley - tea and a chat. Unfortunately no-one can post to your space until something is written on it. Look forward to meeting you.
