This is a well written and well balanced essay. It should ccertainly educate readers enough to reduce their passion for extreme ideas and it is informative covering the subject well in a short aricle.
I would suggest two variations and these are small points.
1. Avoid opening a debateon Mao's motives. Just say what he did.
2. I was suprised to see the ommission of shortages and queues in command economies.
