okay...i just wanted to clear this up. The Sumerians originated the Tale of Gilgamesh, but in it's original form it lacked the prologue and the story of the flood. Which culture added it?? The Assyrians or the Babylonians?

Erm...*shuffle*...good question. As I said there is no complete version of the epic, so perhaps the flood etc. DID exist in the Sumerian version but no recorded copy can be found. Or perhaps the Sumerian version isn't the original as you suggest, but is merely the earliest written copy that has been discovered.
