A very well written piece about a memorable part of the world. I did once try to drive to Eureka from SF, for no other reason than to be able to shout 'I've found it!' upon entering the town. Unfortunately, my family is a democracy, and the majority pulled us south again before we got there. I do remember the amazing redwoods, and a place called Ferndale(?) and some areas that seem to have been logged to death. Thanks for the reminders.

Bravo! Both to Quixotic for a fine Entry and to Pheroneous for a fine idea: I hope you don't mind if I add shouting 'I've found it!' in Eureka to my list of things to do.

Shouting "I Found It" in Eureka is fine al long as you don't mind getting funny looks from the locals. Also, always plan on there being rain in Eureka. I lived there for 10 years and I remember thinking that 70 degrees was unbelievably hot.
