Spandau Ballet - the name

Such a pretty name, but it's derivation comes from somewhere (well, somewhen actually) much darker.
Sources are divided as to whether the term first came to use as:
a description of the jerky movements of a WWI tommy being shot by a German machine gun (the MG08 was often known as the 'Spandau' after the government arsenal where they were manufactured)
or
the "dance of death" at the end of a rope which was the finale of many convicted as Nazi war criminals.
Either way, I think I'd prefer a nice foxtrot....
