Electronic Music is music made using electronic instruments such as synthesizers and samplers.
Electronic music first became big in the eighties although keyboards were used in the seventies and earlier.
In the late eighties an underground scene called rave was born in the abandoned warehouses of the UK. This steadily grew and broke into the mainstream sometime in the nineties when it was dubbed "dance music". The term dance music is very broad and has been broken up into many genres of music e.g. house, garage, trip hop, hip hop, drum and Bass, jungle etc.
Dance music has made a massive impression on the charts and modern musicians. U2 went from being the peoples rock band to hardcore samplists and back again, while Madonna's latest single (Music) is about as electronic as you get.
