Mardi Gras

3 Conversations

An extraordinary celebration of sex, in public, involving lots of other people, live music, plastic jewellery and papier mache floats. Most people point to differences in national character when they try and explain why Mardi Gras never took off originally in Britain. The answer is actually much more simple. Mardi Gras in English means Fat Tuesday. And people in Britain wouldn’t turn up to an event called Fat Tuesday even if you gave money away. Or sex . No, the closest you’ll get to Mardi Gras in Britain is the décor of a Fiat hatchback.
