Why Labor Day is Stupid

Yes. Employment is a great endeavor to undergo, necessary for survival. But it's LABOR DAY-- and NO ONE WORKS(at least not in the states), not even the Federal Workers!!! What's up with that!??
I don't like national holidays when they give the posties the day off. I live for my mail.

Not everyone gets Labor Day off. I have worked every one for the past three years.

YEAH!!! I've had to work nearly ever holiday for the last couple of years. Retail stinks, doesn't it, Miss Courtney!??
(That was almost a social embarrassment)

In reality, it is only government workers and bankers who can count on getting Labor Day off... and we all know they don't do any work during the rest of the year!

Can anyone please explain why if Labor Day is supposed to be for the laborers why is it they are always the one's working and all the State/Goverment employees (who never work) always have it off? Thats just not fair, and they wonder why people go one mass murder sprees

Don't even start to speak to me about unions....
::I be warning you, as a former member of a union that would do nothing for an individual needing their help::

Hey, don't go bagging all unions just because yours didn't help you. Can you imagine what it would be like if you weren't allowed to join a union at all, albeit an inefficient and bureaucracised one?

Yeah-- as long as employers and employees can communicate with one another clearly, and are willing to help each other out, unions aren't all that necessary.
I think the unions of the past, those that were radical and achieved a great deal, gave not only a much-needed voice for the labor force, but also made everyone aware of workers' rights and fair treatment.
Unions of the past were needed. They SHOULDN'T have been, you see!??

Unions of the present are STILL needed. Don't tell me that workers rights aren't being violated, especially in these days of economic rationalism when a quick buck is valued more highly than a pleasant life.
As soon as people start ditching the unions instead of improving them, we will see a rapid decline in the standard of living in industrialised nations. At least Labor Day reminds us of what CAN be achieved, what WAS achieved...

OOOooooo... ok!!! You win, but I still don't have to like Labor Day, since I don't get any mail.... poo-poo...
(I just had a miserable experience with the union I was in-- my employers KNEW ever since hiring me that I'd be returning to school, and wanting to work between 20-30 hours. THey took advantage of me for a year while I was enrolled in my first year of college, and I worked closer to 35-40 hours per week. My union didn't help me or even try to represent me.... so.... that's my big upset. I'll get over it and look at the bigger picture someday-- starting today, after your opinion has been expressed)
