A Conversation for Aircraft of the Isle of Wight: 1900 - 1919
Footnote 1

Surely footnote one would be better placed next to the aircraft name (bat boat) rather than against the british aircraft pioneer Thomas Sopwith.
Maybe he deserves a footnote of his own as he was the designer of such aircraft as the Sopwith Camel and one of those instrumental in bringing the Hawker Harrier into being (as charman of Hawker in the 1950s/60s).

Good points both, Phil.
I personally assumed that everyone would know who Thomas Sopwith was - anyone who read Biggles as a child should definately know - but you're right in that he could have had more information in a footnote.
As for the footnote being by Thomas Sopwith and not the Bat Boat - I'm sure I put it after the Bat Boat and not Thomas Sopwith, but having looked at the original, I see I was wrong. I had thought it was in the right place - you are right to say it makes no sense being there.
Thanks for taking the time to read my article!
